Wasn't There?
by Kylie Sherman
I admit freely to broken experience.
I’m the echo of a glitch in the system
Remembering stories
Repeating stories
--stories--
On repeat
Always.
Wasn’t there someone who once wrote a song
that was so beautiful they grew wings and flew to the sky?
Wasn’t there someone who knew the secrets of the world
and was so lonely and never told anyone?
Wasn’t there someone who was perfect to some
but flawed to others and that’s how they think they’re remembered?
Wasn’t there someone who worried they weren’t perfect
and took forever to understand that no one was?
Wasn’t there someone who wanted to break the rules to change them
but for the longest time was far too afraid?
Wasn’t there someone who lived in a perfect world
once upon a time?
Wasn’t there?
I had a story once.
I think I still do.
It’s lost in the echoes.
It’s part of the echoes.
